FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT THE EX74R Cluster Controller

1.  What is the maximum number of coax devices I can attach?

Answer - 40 devices.   There are 5 direct ports to which you can attach either a coax device or a multiplexer.

3. Will the EX74 slow the system down?

No more than any method of adding capacity. In fact it may be slightly faster than a multiple controller approach due to polling reductions.

2.  What is the maximum number of sessions I can assign to any device?

Answer - 5 sessions.   There is a cumulative total of 120 sessions available.

3.  Can I use a 32 port multiplexer or just 8 port?

Answer - Both 8 port and 32 port muxes are supported.

4.  Can I operate with 56KB or 64KB synchronous modems?

Answer - yes.   If the modems are V.35, you will need a V.35 to RS232 converter.

5.  Can I operate in a BSC environment or only SNA?

Answer - The EX74R supports both SNA and BSC protocols.

6. Does the EX74R support DFT devices such as the 3290, the Consolidator terminal or IPDS printers?

Answer - no.   The EX74R supports only CUT mode devices.

7. Can a parallel printer be attached directly to the controller?

Answer - yes  There is a built in protocol converter.  The attached printer can be either a local or system printer.

8.  Since the EX74R doesn't have a disk drive, how do I load programs?

Answer - There is no need to load programs.   The programs and set up parameters are stored internally in non volatile memory with a battery backup.
